Circus ‘To the Max’
Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars returns to the area with its annual dose of summer thrills. The circus folk set up their Big Top in Elmont, at Belmont Park, this weekend, and then head over to Fireman’s Memorial Field in Oceanside. Cavorting clowns and over-the-top daredevils are the focus of the Cole Bros 2015 edition, which features all the attractions that make this classic circus an appealing summertime tradition. The troupe, which bills itself as “the oldest American circus performing under the Big Top,” offers a fast-paced mix of circus performers appealing to the entire family. Fabulous felines and clever canines, among the assorted animal acts, along with illusionists, high wire acrobats, and, of course, the Human Cannonball, keep everyone entertained throughout the 90 minute show.
Friday through Sunday, July 24-26, at Belmont Park, Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont. Also Monday, through Wednesday, July 27-29, at Firemen’s Memorial Field, Mott St., Oceanside. Times vary. Advance tickets start at $16 ($21 at the gate), available at www.gotothecircus.com or by calling (888) 332-5200. Advance tickets are also available at Oceanside Fire Headquarters, 65 Foxhurst Rd., Oceanside.

The Melody Lingers On
The legacy of Irving Berlin is celebrated in this dynamic musical revue. A cast of renowned musical theater stars and vocalists — including Sarah Rice, Frank Basile, Richard Halpern, Judi Mark, and Lee Meriwether — will take their audience from Tin Pan Alley to Broadway, from Hollywood to tours of duty throughout Europe and the Pacific. In this homage to the composer’s musical genius, the cast shares how Berlin’s songs came to define American music over five decades. The story of Irving Berlin — and the story of an American century — comes alive in the musical biography.
Saturday, July 25, 8 p.m. $30-$50. Madison Theatre, Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. (516) 323-4444 or www.madisontheatreny.org.
