Monday’s Village Board of Trustees meeting began with the annual organization announcements followed by the agenda. Mayor Robert Kennedy, with all trustees present, made appointments to the various village boards and commissions.

Trustees approved the nominations, including the meeting schedule for the upcoming year, and made other appointments. They then continued with their agenda.

They approved the final cost of $971,134 for the Waterfront Park Bulkhead Reconstruction Project at Monday’s regular meeting.

According to information from Public Works Superintendent Robert Fisenne, the board awarded the contract for the project on Dec. 29, 2014, to Rockmore Contracting Corp, of Ronkonkoma, the low bidder in the amount of $947,800.00.

Under this project, the bulkhead along the eastern shoreline of the park (Nassau Channel) was replaced in its entirety. The bulkhead along the southern shoreline (Little Swift Creek) was repaired by installing sheathing seaward of the existing bulkhead. Additionally, new vinyl sheathing was installed along the western shoreline to prevent the furtherance of erosion.

The contractor received the “Notice to Proceed” on March 3, 2015, and substantial completion was achieved by Oct. 12, 2015.

The project was performed under the supervision of the Public Works office and the Engineering Department. The final contract amount is $971,134.42 which is more than the original bid amount. This was due to having to make several site modifications that were not anticipated during the bidding phase of the project.

Mayor Kennedy said state grants paid for much of the project.
