Health fair offers services to hundreds

Freeport’s Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church at 97 Broadway, welcomed 160 adults and children to their free Community Health Fair on Aug. 4. In a single day, the church volunteers along with nurses and doctors provided blood pressure check, asthma check, audiology screening, dental screening and mammogram services.

Attendees also were able to sample healthy foods and also learn how to prepare them. The Fun Zone for the kids also distributed book bags with school supplies. Others took advantage a free chair massage and a got some freebie giveaways. According to Pastor Dr. Paula Olivier, there was fun for the entire family.

According to Olivier, the event also included community partners like Long Island Family Health Centers (LIFQHC), Stony Brook University Cancer Center: Mobile Mammography Van and Nassau University Medical Center who conducted a “Stop the Bleed” presentation, which trains and equips bystanders to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.
