New Atomic Wings celebrates National Chicken Wing Day

Atomic Wings, Freeport’s newest Nautical Mile restaurant, celebrated National Chicken Wing Day on July 29 by giving away five free wings with orders. Atomic Wings officially opened in June by Munir Tahir from West Islip and Yamah Omar from Deer Park.

This year’s National Chicken Wing, according to Tahir was a special celebration for the new location because it allowed the business partners to introduce their customers to the 14 sauces and specialty halal menu. Since opening, the location has sold over 100,000 wings. Tahir also said Freeport’s favorite wings are the Mild Buffalo and Mango Habanero. He explained Atomic Wings’ food is always fresh, never frozen with chicken hand-tossed in sauce regularly. But there’s more than just wings — the menu includes burgers, chicken sandwiches, waffle fries and more.

Before becoming “wing entrepreneurs” the men worked in finance and real estate up until they were helping a client — Atomic Wings, look for a commercial property to open a restaurant.

Hooked on the wings, Tahir opted to become a franchise owner with Omar joining him. They settled to take on the current location and transformed into an Atomic Wings. “The rest is history…” he said in between laughs. But it was their love for Freeport that prompted them to open their third location at 28 Woodcleft Avenue at the entrance of the Nautical Mile. “I’m a big fan of Freeport,” Tahir said. “The location was perfect.”

Freeporter Steve Friedman grabbed a bite shortly after lunch and admitted he was there just for the buffalo wings. “The food here is delicious,” he said.

Meanwhile, Uniondale native Tim Myrick confessed he detoured to Freeport after work to grab a gyro before heading home.

“I tried the food last week when I went on a cruise here and loved it,” Myrick said. “I had to come back and try more.

The restaurant will be open year-round and offer delivery.

“We’re going to be here for football season, too,” Tahir said with a laugh.
