The Marion & Aaron Gural JCC, the Five Towns Community Center and Community Chest South Shore have joined forces with the UJA-Federation of New York — the JCC’s sponsor organization — and the AFYA Foundation to collect items for Hurricane Florence relief. AFYA is considered a “nimble and proactive first responder” for disaster relief.

The list of needed supplies includes adult diapers, all cleaning supplies, baby diapers and wipes, batteries, children’s vitamins, cots and mats, trash bags, 5-gallon buckets, generators, personal cleaning wipes, soap/body wash, tarps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, water and work gloves.

“All the pieces fell into place,” Joel Block, the interim executive director of the Gural JCC, said of the collaboration.

Items can be dropped off at the Community Center, 270 Lawrence Ave. in Lawrence, Monday through Thursday from 7:40 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The collection ends on Sept. 30.

“Gural’s lead in organizing an interfaith response demonstrates the heart and soul of the Long Island community to help those in crisis, said Shana Bloom, Assistant Director Community Volunteer Engagement, UJA-Federation of New York. “We are grateful to Gural, the Five Towns Community Center and the Community Chest of the South Shore for trying to ease the suffering of those affected by Florence.”
