Good Shepherd Hospice Center is returning to Mercy Medical Center — after about 30 years — in the form of a new $5 million, 8,400-square-foot facility. The completion of the center was commemorated at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Jan. 8.

Good Shepherd Hospice at Mercy provides a home-like environment that delivers hospice care to patients with complex medical needs. It offers expert symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, and dignity and comfort to patients and their loved ones. The center features 12 private in-patient rooms, a family lounge, a kitchen and dining area, and dedicated prayer and family meeting rooms.

It also offers social work professionals, pastoral care and bereavement services, and loved ones can visit 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

The center, which began serving patients on Jan. 8, is supported by multiple donors, including the Friends of Mercy. Good Shepherd Hospice and Mercy Medical Center are both members of Catholic Health Services, which has the mission to honor the sanctity of life at every stage and the dignity of every person.
