Dorothy Alabaster Pless died with peace and grace on Aug. 23 in hospice at the age of 94, according to her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, William, brothers, Robert and Alfred Alabaster, and sister, Charlotte Walker. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Malbec, of Weston, Florida, and grandchildren, Ian and Hadley Malbec.

Pless was born in Baldwin, the daughter of Sidney Alabaster, an engraver, and his wife Helen, a homemaker, and later moved to Bellmore. She worked as an executive secretary at Scudder, Stevens and Clark in New York City for 20 years, and then as a clerk at the Bellmore Library for many years.

After marrying Bill, she threw her energies into raising their daughter and keeping active at the Bellmore Methodist Church, where she participated in the choir and many church activities. She was an avid golfer and continued playing when she retired to Jensen Beach, Florida, in 1990. She was recognized for her joy of music and her creativeness writing original songs (“Dottie’s ditties”) for family weddings and events.

A service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in the fall. She leaves her family rich in memories. A donation to the music program at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2221 NE Savannah Rd, Jensen Beach, FL 34957, would be appreciated.
