Five Towns students attain academic honors

Among the more than 3,700 students who graduated from Tufts University on May 20 were Hewlett resident Seth Moreida and Elyse Cooper of Woodmere. Moreida earned summa cum laude honors and bachelor’s degree in international relations. Cooper received a bachelor’s in electrical engineering.

Matthew Atwell, from Woodmere, graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in information technology at the upstate school’s 133rd commencement in May. RIT conferred 4,747 degrees this academic year at all its campuses, including in Croatia, Dubai, Kosovo and China.

Woodmere resident David Gassman was named to the University of Alabama President’s List for the spring semester. To earn this honor, students must be attending school full-time and attain a grade-point average of 4.0 (all A’s.)

Essence Hightower, of Inwood, and Nikki Lildharrie, from Hewlett, were among the students named to the SUNY Plattsburgh dean’s list for the spring semester. To be eligible, undergraduate students must achieve a minimum 3.5 semester GPA with at least 12 credit hours. Part-time, matriculated students are also eligible for the dean’s list after accruing 12 credit hours consecutively and achieving a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Radio City Music Hall was the site for Monroe College’s 85th commencement on June 13, and two Inwood residents, Victor Mintz and Nicholas Ramirez were among the 2,600 students who received degrees, both earned an Associate in Science in criminal justice.
