Lynbrook resident Patrick Curran, father of State Assemblyman Brian Curran, died on Aug. 19 after a six-month battle with stomach cancer. He was 85.

Patrick Curran was born on March 7, 1932, in Lawrencetown, Ireland, and emigrated to the U.S. when he was 19. He resided in New Jersey initially, but after he met his wife, Ellen, in Brooklyn, the couple settled in Lynbrook in the early 1960s, and raised six children together.

Curran served in the U.S. Army Ski Patrol Unit for two years from 1955 to 1957. After the Army, he began working for the New York City Transit Authority. Curran started out as a bus driver and worked his way up to depot supervisor, eventually retiring in 1993 after a 36-year career. He is remembered for having a fondness for soccer, a sport he grew to love while growing up in Ireland.

A visitation for Curran was held on Aug. 22 at Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home on Hempstead Avenue, and his funeral Mass was held Aug. 23 at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church on Fowler Avenue. Curran was buried at St. Charles Cemetery on Wellwood Avenue in Farmingdale.

Curran was preceded in death by Ellen in 2010. In addition to his son Brian, Patrick Curran is survived by his other five children, James; Patricia; Eileen; Michael; and Maryellen, and 14 grandchildren.
