Island Park Mayor James Ruzicka estimated that Little Beach has eroded 75 percent over the last decade. An Army Corps of Engineers report recommends replacing the deteriorating eastern bulkhead of the beach, at right, which abuts Suffolk Road. Sen. Charles Schumer has said he will help the village, the Town of Hempstead, the DEC and the corps come together to find a solution to the problem.
