Nassau County Police are asking the public’s help in finding a vehicle that was involved in an early-morning hit-and-run incident in Island Park last Saturday.

An unidentified 31-year-old woman fell off her bicycle at the intersection of Railroad Place and Long Beach Road and was hit by a car that ran over her and kept going, police said. The accident occurred at 2:23 a.m. on July 16.

The woman was riding east on Railroad Place, according to police, and turned south on Long Beach Road, heading for the Long Beach Bridge, when she fell off her bike into the right lane of traffic. Police are looking for a black Acura RSX that they say ran over the woman and kept driving south on Long Beach Road. The vehicle is described as an older model two-door sedan with blacked-out tail lights and a tinted license plate cover.

The woman was listed in critical condition with internal injuries at a local hospital as the Herald went to press.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
