Bringing Halloween back to Oceanside

Because Hurricane Sandy hit at the very end of October, it dashed the hopes of many children to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.

As Oceanside picks itself back up and rebuilds, resident John Madden wanted to give the children the holiday they missed.

He organized a trunk-or-treat event (where children walk around to cars instead of houses and collect candy) in the parking lot at Tower’s Funeral Home in Oceanside, located at 2681 Long Beach road, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Children will be able to go around to all who participate and trick-or-treat at their cars. Then, at 1 p.m., they will set out into the unaffected areas of the neighborhood.

Residents who want to give candy to the kids should hang a Halloween decoration on their door to signify that they are participating.

“Even if people don’t have kids, they can come over and decorate their cars and give candy to kids,” said Madden.
