Celebrating 75 years as an Island Park landmark

It has been an Island Park landmark for 75 years, the first thing you see when you cross over the water onto Barnum Island. Built in 1939 and opened in Summer of 1940, Peter’s Clam Bar is one of Long Island’s oldest clam bars and seafood houses.

On May 14, owner Butch Yamali, joined by community leaders, celebrated Peter’s Restaurant’s long history and kicked off yet another summer season.

The building was heavily damage by four feet of water during hurricane Sandy. Inside it has been completely rebuilt and redecorated.

Yamali said Peter’s would feature rollback Thursdays when he will offer some dishes at the same prices as years ago including 75 cents for clam chowder and 10 cents for a cup of coffee.
