The city canceled its annual fireworks show at Riverside Boulevard beach on Friday after a barge that puts on the offshore display was unable to access the beachfront due to heavy surf in the Rockaway Inlet, the city said on Facebook.

The fireworks display by Bay Fireworks was set to begin at dark from a barge in the ocean. The show has been postponed, as well as the concert featuring New York Minute, which was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

The event attracts thousands of residents and visitors alike, and the fireworks can be seen throughout Long Beach. The city was set to provide free shuttle bus service to and from the event.

The city instructed residents and visitors to check its Facebook page and website for updates.
