Cleaning up the marshes

Posted

The sky was overcast, a few raindrops fell but that didn’t stop a stalwart group from slogging through the marshes around Island Park on May 17, to clean up the flotsam and jetsam. Called the Third Annual Island Park Community Group Hog Channel Marsh Cleanup people from all around the area came armed with rakes, shovels, and garbage bags. The sky cleared as they worked, and in the end they filled a sanitation truck with one ton of garbage, leaving the beach and marsh clean. Resident of Island Park were aided by United Friends of America from Freeport, members of Operation Splash and Sludge Stoppers.
