County moves to take over L.B. Motor Inn

Nassau County has published notice in its effort to condemn and acquire the Long Beach Motor Inn, on Austin Boulevard in Island Park, for “senior citizen-related uses.”

County Legislator Denise Ford explained, “This is the first step. It has to be published, then we go to court.” The county will be looking at ways to utilize the property as senior citizen housing. “That is what the community wants,” said Ford.

Nassau County Supreme Court will hear the case, beginning on May 25, and rule on the condemnation and subsequent sale of the property to the county. The public purpose of the condemnation proceeding, according to the county, is to enhance the public health, safety and well-being of the residents, including addressing the needs of senior residents.

The court will determine the amount the county will pay for the property.
