Former I.P. Fire Chief Dino Papatsos, 79, dies

Dino Papatsos, a lifelong resident of Island Park, died May 13. He was a member of the Island Park Fire Department for 61 years, and served as chief from 1967 to 1968. He was also a Nassau County police officer who served with the fourth precinct, and later transfered to the marine bureau, where he was serving when he retired.

Papatsos was active in the Island Park Greek Orthodox Church Panaghia.

He is surived by his wife, former Island Park Mayor Jackie Papatsos, his daughter Carol and her husband Nicky, his son Chris, and his granddaughter Rebecca.

He is buried in Greenfield Cemetery, in Uniondale.

Over 200 firemen from all over Long Island came to bid him farewell. “His laugh will echo forever,” said Island Park Fire Chief Anthony D’Esposito. “The department mourns his loss. His fellow firefighters and the entire community will miss him.” D’Esposito served with Papatsos for 15 years.
