Fritos, Cheetos and Coke: the parent trap

It takes enormous resources of energy, and two parents who honor the same rules, to maintain a reasonably healthy lifestyle. I heard my 7-year-old grandson say he would like to start yoga, which both his parents do. So, healthy habits are catching, too.

What we have in our country is a perfect storm of bad habits: excessive eating, kids who watch too much TV, food companies that pander to kids’ appetite for sweets and doctors who are not routinely screening kids for obesity.

If I were a parent with kids in public school, I would be storming the barricades, demanding more nutritious lunches. At home, I would give my children the best possible chance to grow into healthy adults.
