When asked about the value of physical fitness, President John F. Kennedy once said, “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.”

At Island Park Lincoln Orens Middle School, administrators and teachers believe in the significance of developing a healthy mind and body in each student. One of the activities highlighting the school’s physical fitness program is the annual sixth grade physical education demonstration. This year’s event, under the direction of athletic director Catherine Gerbino and physical education teacher Matthew Tarasenko, was held Jan. 11 in the school gymnasium. Sixth graders showcased their athletic skills before their parents, friends, and relatives in a series of physically challenging activities including Boulder Ball Relay, Indoor Soccer, Guinea Pig, European Handball, Crossfire, and Tug-of-War.
