Kaminsky gets $75K to replace lost school aid for Island Park

State Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky has secured $75,000 in discretionary aid from the Assembly for the Island Park School District. Kaminsky, a Democrat from Long Beach, fought for the additional funding after the district lost $72,000 in state aid as the result of an anomaly in the way the funding was calculated in this year’s state budget. The district received a total of just over $2.3 million in aid for the 2015-16 school year, 2.99 percent less than this year.

“When the school runs were released and I saw an almost 3 percent drop in state aid for Island Park,” Kaminsky said, “I resolved to remedy this inequity.”

“We were absolutely thrilled to learn that Assemblyman Kaminsky secured $75,000 in bullet aid for Island Park Schools,” said Superintendent Rosmarie Bovino, referring to the additional money he secured. “However, our joy will be far surpassed by that of our pre-kindergarten children, who will enjoy the playground these funds will enable us to build this summer.”
