LBHS student approached by man at I.P. bus stop

School officials call incident a ‘misunderstanding’

The Island Park school district issued a statement Wednesday afternoon urging parents to “remain vigilant” in protecting children from strangers after a Long Beach High School student said he was approached by a man at a village bus stop.

But school officials said Thursday the incident was a misunderstanding.

The student alerted his guidance counselor that morning that a man in a silver van advanced toward him while he was waiting for the bus in Island Park. The teen then ran into a neighbor’s yard to evade the man, school officials said in a Facebook post.

Though the district notified Nassau County police, who said Thursday afternoon they were looking into the incident, Island Park Schools Superintendent Rosmarie Bovino later said the man was not a danger to the student.
