The Fashion Class is an incredible place for creative children and teens intrigued with clothing and style. Whether you opt for classes in sewing, fashion design and branding, summer camp or a birthday party, it’s bound to excite and inspire.

Founder and creator Kerri Quigley learned to sew from her grandmother at age six. While attending the Parsons School of Design she created her own women’s clothing line which was manufactured in New York City’s garment center and later in India. Her fashions have appeared in Cosmopolitan magazine and Teen Vogue. She first introduced The Fashion Class in 2010 as a summer camp in Brooklyn, where she grew up. Now she has locations in Brooklyn, Midtown Manhattan and Merrick, Long Island.

Each instructor at the Fashion Class is true fashion designer and part of the industry. Having attended prestigious schools like the Fashion Institute of Technology, most instructors also have their own clothing and/or accessory lines. Quigley writes the curriculum, plans the projects, and also teaches.

Classes are held throughout the year, both after school and on weekends, for ages six through 17. Instruction includes fashion illustration and design, and sewing, making wearable clothing on real sewing machines. Right now the Fashion Class is bringing technology into the mix, sewing circuits that light up onto clothing, connecting them with silver thread. Adults can enjoy periodically scheduled workshops, like an evening of “Sip & Stitch.”

Parties are yet another option at the Fashion Class. The birthday child can choose from a sewing project, craft project or a runway show. Included are decorations, paper goods, goody bags, invitations, project supplies and beverages for the parents

With summer around the corner, the Fashion Class Merrick is now gearing up for “Create with Sewing and Fashion Design Camp,” which starts in July. Summer camp is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with early drop off and late pickup available. Students learn every facet of fashion and accessory design, right down to fabric science. They play games like “Ten-minute Catwalk,” and have fun with other fashionistas.
