Chamber ensemble performs at Westbury House

Old Westbury Gardens Charles II-style mansion is the setting for a concert of chamber masterworks in the grand setting of Westbury House’s Red Ballroom. The Chamber Players International ensemble performs, featuring renowned pianist Xiayin Wang and violinist Bela Horvath, along with members of Chamber Players’ core ensemble. They’ll present the Saint-Saens’ passionate Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 75 as well as the Brahms’ exquisite Piano Quartet in G minor Op. 25. The international ensemble, which partnered last September with former Long Island Philharmonic director David Stewart Wiley to form the Long Island Concert Orchestra, performs 25 to 30 concerts a year in the region. The new orchestra is expected to announce a concert schedule soon.

Winter Trek
As the calendar moves towards spring’s approach, get outside and take a late winter hike through one of Long Island’s fascinating preserves. The three-mile hike takes visitors along a variety of environments located some of Muttontown Preserve’s 550 acres, exploring the various plants and animals found there. The tour focuses on a variety of environments in the preserve, including wetlands, wooded trails, upland woods, conifer stands, kettle ponds, and open fields. The preserve’s guide will also discuss the various plants and animals located there. Nassau County’s largest nature preserve is acclaimed as one of most beautiful settings on Long Island. It includes miles of marked nature trails with local wildflowers, trees, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Muttontown also has several structures, including the renovated Chelsea Mansion, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
