A winter weather advisory continues for Nassau County through noon Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. A coastal flood advisory continues through 11 p.m. Tuesday night, and a high surf advisory until 6 p.m. There is another chance for snow after 4 p.m. Tuesday, and the continued possibility of snow through Thursday.

High tide Tuesday is at 8:46 p.m. and it is expected to be 4.33 feet above normal.

The flooding continued at high tide Tuesday morning in Oceanside and Island Park, some residents saying this morning was worse than yesterday.

Island Park schools were open but getting to the water surrounded Francis X. Hegarty Elementary School building took a little cooperation. School Board trustee Jack Vobis and School Principal Jacob Russum stood outside and helped children get from cars and school buses sitting in flood waters into the building.

The following notice was published on the district web site:

THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT IS DOING ITS BEST TO PICK UP YOUR CHILDREN AT THE REGULAR TIME. HOWEVER, IF YOUR AREA IS FLOODED, PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILDREN IN DOORS AND SAFE. WE WILL MAKE ANOTHER BUS RUN AT 11 AM. SHOULD THE WATER RECEDE BEFORE THEN, PLEASE CALL 434-2607 AND LET US KNOW. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO PICK UP ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.

The Gym Demonstration scheduled for Tuesday at Hegarty School has been rescheduled for Thursday.

Schools are open in Oceanside as well, however the flood waters covered roads and sidewalks in Oceanside as well, turning the train station area into a pond, and making travel dangerous.

Nassau County Police remind motorists not to drive through flooded streets or deep water. The car could become disabled. Police ask if you do not need to travel immediately to wait for the flood waters to recede.
