New teachers, staff for Island Park schools

The Island Park School District welcomed new faculty and staff for the 2013-2014 school year who are replacing retirees or those who left the district:

Francis X. Hegarty School

Diana Vazquez – FLES Teacher

Diana Vazquez is teaching Spanish for Grades K, 4, 5, and 6. Ms. Vazquez was a leave replacement Spanish teacher last year at Lincoln Orens Middle School. Previously, she taught Spanish at White Plains High School and Highlands Middle School in White Plains, as well as Manhasset Middle School/High School. She studied abroad in Spain and is certified to teach Spanish in Grades K-12. Ms. Vazquez earned an A.A. degree from Queensborough Community College, Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Queens College, and a Master of Arts in Instructional Technology from Touro College.

Alison Gilberti – Per Diem Substitute Teacher

Alison Gilberti was a student teacher at New Visions Museum School of Exploration and Discovery in Freeport, where she taught kindergarten, first, and fourth grades. She graduated Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dual Early Childhood & Childhood Elementary Education and Speech Communication/Rhetorical Studies.

Cristie Barone – Nurse

A registered Nurse, Ms. Barone is an experienced school nurse, having worked at Carmans Road School and Lawrence Woodmere Academy. She also is fluent in Spanish and taught English and First Aid in Paraguay. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Zion College and a Registered Nurse degree from Finger Lakes Community College.

Linda Quigley - Clerk/Typist

Linda Quigley was a clerk typist with the Rockville Centre School District and worked in the administrative office of the Bellmore School District. She attended Queens College.
