Trump dumbs down issues

To the Editor:

Patrick Nicolosi writes that “those of us who are supporting businessman Donald Trump for president are supporting him for many reasons” (“Fed up with all this political correctness, Sept. 24-30). He could not be more correct.

To complex questions, Trump offers simplistic, meaningless sound-bite pablum such as “We’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things.” He proposes to snap his fingers and magically make 11 million people disappear without cost or consequence. He vilifies 6 million American Muslims, including, in Mr. Nicolosi’s own words, the 14-year-old boy who had the audacity to build (gasp!) a clock but “knew exactly what he was doing” — whatever that means.

The biggest reason that people support Trump is that he provides a steady stream of tough-guy talk intended to make self-appointed “real Americans” like Mr. Nicolosi feel better about themselves. What is truly sad is that there are so many folks who eat it up.

Push for Voter ID

To the Editor:

An open letter to all the conservatives running for the presidency of the United States of America. Before the 2016 elections you should be pushing for voter identity at polling places. Anyone without proof of citizenship should not be allowed to vote. We citizens deserve to be protected from those who would try to steal the election using fraudulent voters as was intimated in previous elections.
