Officials: Jones Beach is on the road to recovery
(Page 3 of 3)
Scott Brinton/Herald
The state is using massive dump trucks to unload 800,000 cubic yards of sand to build dunes along the Ocean Parkway.

Transportation and parks officials credited Gov. Andrew Cuomo with getting the restoration project under way quickly after Hurricane Sandy. The governor signed an executive order in November, which he has since extended a number of times, allowing state agencies to hire contractors for the project while they await the arrival of emergency federal funding.

Harvey said that the state is also working to repair damage that Hurricane Sandy did to Jones Beach’s boardwalk and park buildings, including the West Bathhouse.
