Long Beach police say that a man attempted to lure a local teen into his van on Friday, and urged residents to be vigilant as they investigate the incident.

Police said that at approximately 9:50 a.m., a white male driving a light blue work van approached a 15-year-old male in the vicinity of New York Avenue and West Beech Street.

The man asked the teen if he needed a ride; the boy declined, and the man drove away. No injuries were reported, and police said that the incident is under investigation.

“As always, if you see something, say something,” the department said in a statement on Facebook, adding that the LBPD can be reached by calling (516) 431-1800.

Police urged parents to be mindful, and provided some tips for kids:

•They should not approach just anyone.

•It’s important for them to get permission before going anywhere with anyone.

•Tell their parent right away if anyone asks them to keep a secret or makes them feel uncomfortable.

•If they need help, they can look for a uniformed police officer, a store clerk with a name tag, or a parent with children.
