“Some Pig” comes to the I.P. Library

Island Park artist Evan Davis has finished his latest creation, “Some Pig,” at the Island Park library. This time he has graced the library walls with a painting of Wilbur the pig, and his friend Charlotte, spinner of the famous web, from the E. B. White’s children’s novel “Charlotte’s Web”. Davis, born in Rockville Center, grew up in Island Park. In 2005 he created the first mural for the Island Park Library, with the help of Steven Foster, Mary Garthwaite and Cathy Marino. Next came “Jack and the Bean Stalk”, the Emerald City featuring the stars of “The Wizard of Oz” and now he has completed a new one.

“As far back as I can remember teachers saw I wasn’t drawing stick figures,” he said, noting even his kindergarten teacher saw his skill. After graduating from West Hempstead High School Davis attended the School for Visual Arts, and received a Bachelor in Fine Arts in illustration and advertising. He continued his formal education at Parsons The New School For Design. From there he began work in advertising, illustrating magazines, newspapers, brochures, logos, cards and labels. He also freelanced, taking commission work on the side.

Davis likes working in acrylic on canvas, but has worked in most mediums. He would like to paint murals on buildings in Island Park, much like Freeport has, which, he says, “would make the town and village more attractive and inviting.” You can find more of his work at www.facebook.com/edavis2
