This was a lot of work, but we finally got it together,” said Island Park Business and Residential Chamber President Terry Reichel as she looked out over the three-day street fair held in Island Park last weekend.
There were some conflicts with other events Reichel explained, and Island Park Faculty Community Day, Saint Anthony’s Feast in Oceanside, and the Jimi Gubelli 5k Run/Walk, so the fair dates had to change.
“We start planning next year when the previous year’s fair ends,” Reichel said, “We work with the Village, the local houses of worship and their parishioners. Eight members of the Chamber were working full time at the fair over the weekend. There were ten rides and 40 vendors.”
The Chamber made about $8,000 from the event. That money is used for scholarships given to Island Park students, donated to various community organizations like the Jimi Gubelli Run and the Faculty Association Community Day, funding the Christmas Tree Lighting and children’s movie night, and beautification projects throughout the community.
“We are planning [more] community days,” Reichel said, “A clam bake, a car show, and of course next winter’s Christmas Tree Lighting.”
