The city released a new television commercial this week as part of a summer marketing campaign.

The commercial will run on Cablevision and Verizon through mid-August and can be seen on News 12, Fios 1, the Food Network, CNN, Fox News, TLC, ESPN, Bravo and SNY, said Gordon Tepper, a spokesman for the city.

It will air in the Northeastern region of the country, “geared towards folks who are likely to come and visit Long Beach,” City Manager Jack Schnirman said.

The original marketing campaign was launched in 2013 in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and featured actor and Long Beach native Billy Crystal, Schnirman said, funded by a $700,000 grant from New York State.

He added that the recent spot did not cost the city money to produce this year and was updated using previously filmed footage.

Sponsors of the new commercial include Bethpage Federal Credit Union and NYU Winthrop, who recently partnered with the city to provide 14 free sunscreen dispensers along the city’s Ocean Beach Park.

“[The campaign] helps boost Long Beach businesses and beach pass sales,” Schnirman said, “and takes the burden off taxpayers by bringing in revenue and keeping taxes down.”

Schnirman said the campaign highlights Long Beach as a year-round family-friendly destination and incorporates advertisements on platforms such as radio, print, web and billboards.

A K98 FM radio promotion also began airing this week in addition to the TV commercial, Tepper said. The local radio station will be broadcasting from the boardwalk between 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

“We do this every year,” Schnirman said. “It’s a little push in the middle of summer because Long Beach is naturally busy early in the season. [The campaign] signifies what the Long Beach life is all about.”
