East Meadow is soaring to new heights in unity

The East Meadow School District celebrated Unity Day with students and staff signing paper balloons that were then installed as a beautiful mural at the Leon J. Campo Salisbury Center. The National Art honor societies of W.T. Clarke and East Meadow high schools worked together to create the visual of a hot air balloon. This was inspired by Disney Pixar’s animated film “Up.” Two additional themes of this year’s Unity Day included special messages of positivity that are included in the mural to promote mental health and wellness.

Unity Day is an event organized by the PTA Council and is held as part of National Bullying Prevention Month every fall. This fall marks East Meadow’s seventh year celebrating Unity Day. Unity Day focuses on bully prevention and the idea of spreading kindness. Every school in the district organized different events centered on the 2019 theme, “Soaring to New Heights.”

In addition to the mural, the district conducted a district-wide food drive to benefit Island Harvest. More than 1,000 pounds of food was collected, which will feed about 800 families this holiday season.

The “Soaring to New Heights” mural will be on display until late spring 2020. The district thanks the PTA Council, faculty, staff and students who were involved in organizing this uplifting event.
