National Council of Jewish Women honors five

The National Council of Jewish Women-Long Island sections recognized five women. Including Judy Bernstein at its 24th annual Women Who Make a Difference luncheon at Temple Avodah, in Oceanside, on May 1.

Bernstein, a Lawrence High School graduate, was a joint honoree of NCJW-Long Island and Peninsula sections, received the Woman Who Makes A Difference Award. The other honorees were Elaine Farber and Ruth Kaplan of NCJW-Lakeville Section, Merle Wechsler of NCJW-South Shore Section, and Bea Block of NCJW-Westbury Section. The Peninsula Section includes the Five Towns.

For the past six years, Bernstein, has served on the Peninsula Section’s executive committee as recording secretary, and helps out with other community activities.
Retired from a career as an educational technology teacher and consultant, she serves on the executive board of Westbury Schools Retirees-NYSUT.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran delivered the keynote address, and addressed her priority initiatives, the role of women in politics and the value of volunteers in building communities.
