A 91-year-old woman was fatally struck and killed on Long Beach Road on Jan. 3. Police are investigating.

In Island Park, hours before the first snowflakes fell on Jan. 3, a 91-year-old woman was hit by a van and killed on Long Beach Road, police reported.
The woman, who detectives did not identify, was attempting to cross from the west side of the street to the east near Waterford Road when at 4:15 p.m. she was reportedly hit by a southbound 1997 Ford Aerostar van and suffered “multiple trauma injuries.” She was then rushed to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver, a woman, was unhurt. The van was impounded for a brake and safety check as police continue to investigate.
