Wantagh High School allegedly threatened by non-resident

Wantagh Superintendent of Schools John McNamara sent a letter to parents on April 26 to report non-specific threat made to Wantagh High School and the arrest of the suspect on April 23.

According to the e-mail, the district immediately contacted the Nassau County Police Department, who confirmed that the person who made the alleged threat was arrested. The suspect is not a Wantagh resident, nor did he attend any public school in Wantagh.

Police said that the threat was allegedly made by an ex-boyfriend of a current student. Due to the nature of the incident, no further information was given.

McNamara wrote that, as a precautionary measure, the district initiated its security procedures and took the threat as serious, despite having no reason to believe that it would be acted on.

We will update this story with further information as it becomes available.
