Old Westbury Gardens
Westbury House, the grand old estate at Old Westbury Gardens, shares its holiday spirit with visitors once again before it closes for the season. This weekend offers the final chance to visit and glimpse what a holiday celebration was like during those opulent decades of the early 1900s.
Stop by the estate, Saturday evening, Dec. 15, for a holiday Owl Prowl, 6-8:30 p.m. A wildlife expert from Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center will bring live owls for a “meet and greet” session and later lead an outdoor search for the creatures throughout the grounds. After the program, warm up with a tour of Westbury House, looking festive in its holiday best.
Two sessions are offered: 6-7 p.m. and 7:30-8:30 p.m. Admission is $12, $8 ages 3-17; registration is required. Admission includes a visit to Westbury House, refreshments and a visit with Santa.
The following day, Dec. 16, features a wreath making workshop, at 2 p.m. Kids, ages 6 and up, can learn to craft a one-of-a-kind wreath to deck their own halls this season. The fee is $10, including materials and admission for an accompanying adult. Registration is required.
