The city officially unveiled its new boardwalk directories this week, part of an effort to promote local businesses. The directories include maps of local establishments, much like a mall directory, and are aimed at guiding both residents and visitors to shops and restaurants throughout Long Beach.

One of the three directories can be found at the Long Island Rail Road station, while two are located on the boardwalk, between National and Edwards Boulevards, and between Edwards and Riverside.

The directories were created through the city’s Economic Development and Planning Department in partnership with local businesses. Sponsors include CityMD, Joyce Coletti and Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

“We are always working to come up with new ways to promote our businesses and enhance economic development in Long Beach,” City Councilman Anthony Eramo said in a statement. “Our intention with these kiosks is to encourage everyone to explore what the City has to offer and truly embrace the Long Beach Life.”

Long Beach Chamber of Commerce President Michael Kerr called it a “terrific idea.”

“We are extremely fortunate to have an administration that really takes action to help local businesses,” Kerr said.

A number of local business owners also lauded the initiative, saying that it will help support local businesses by encouraging visitors on the boardwalk and in the center of town to check out local establishments throughout Long Beach.

“The boardwalk directories will really assist in driving residents and visitors to our shops and restaurants all around the city, including the West End,” said Sean Sullivan, owner of Swingbellys BBQ.

“These kiosks promote local businesses and are supported by local businesses, it's a great idea,” said Gregg LaPenna, owner of A Whale’s Tale.

“We are thrilled to have a directory which will allow residents and visitors to Long Beach to find stores and restaurants that are located within walking distance to the boardwalk,” added Trisha Daly, a partner at The Blue Bungalow.
