Art Explorations
Enjoy some spring inspiration at Nassau County Museum of Art, indoors and out, during Family Day, Converse, collaborate and create together during a museum outing, which features an exploration of new art materials and ideas with a museum educator. Take the kids on a docent-led walk-through of the current exhibition, “Out of the Vault: 25 Years of Collecting,” the first comprehensive exhibition of works from NCMA’s permanent collection. Supervised art activities challenge young visitors’ creativity. Also, spend some time in the sculpture park, which features over 40 works, many of the monumental in size by renowned artists, including Fernando Botero, Tom Otterness, George Rickey, and Mark DiSuvero, among others. For more outdoor fun, traverse one of the many marked nature trails among the museum’s 145 acres, ideal for family hikes. Also check out the NCMA’s restored formal gardens, blooming with vibrant spring color.

Spring Adventures

Early Bird Walk
Meet the feathered friends who share our world. Take a morning stroll with an experienced naturalist to observe the many species of birds that reside in the region. The focus is on the spring migration of birds in the woods and meadows, with an expert on hand to demonstrate bird banding and discuss bird migration. See birds close up as they are released back to nature and learn to identify the birds that make their home here, along with a discussion of migration patterns. The walk is approximately three miles over mostly flat terrain.
Sunday, May 24, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. Muttowntown Preserve, Muttontown Lane, East Norwich. (516) 571-8500.
