Drivers injured in head-on collision

The Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department, led by Fire Chief James Walsh, responded to an accident on Lido Boulevard and Sharen Drive in Lido Beach on Monday. Fire officials said that they received a call at 6:37 p.m., after a driver heading west on Lido Boulevard drifted into the eastbound lane — during what is believed to have been a medical emergency — and struck another vehicle head-on. Firefighters used a Hurst tool to extricate the drivers of the vehicles, both of whom sustained injuries. They were transported to Nassau University Medical Center by Point-Lookout Lido Fire Department and Nassau County Police Department ambulances. Officials did not provide an update on the status of the drivers. Some motorists who reported the collision told the Herald that some west and eastbound lanes were closed and caused some delays, and that traffic was rerouted to side streets.
