Fundraiser to honor Jaime Whelan set for Sept. 20

Posted

The Jaime Whelan Foundation will hold its seventh annual scholarship fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Beach House, 906 W. Beech St., from 2 to 6 p.m.

The event is held in memory of the late Jaime Whelan, a former Island Park resident and a well-respected sales representative, who died in a tragic accident during a trip to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires in 2007 at age 30.

Jaime’s family established the foundation in 2008, and the fundraiser attracts hundreds of supporters each year.

The event not only commemorates Jaime’s life, but also raises money for scholarships for female students graduating from Long Beach Catholic Regional School — Jaime’s alma mater — who plan to attend Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead.
The fundraiser will feature a collection of raffle prizes and auction packages. The event is $50 per person, which includes four hours of open bar, appetizers and a raffle ticket for a 42-inch flat screen HDTV.
