Troupe brings "Adventures in Ballet" to Hofstra

Adventures in Ballet
Frank Ohman’s New York Dance Theatre welcomes dance enthusiasts to a special performance that celebrates the world of ballet. The program features all original choreography danced to a broad range of music. Ohman’s newest ballet “Romanzen” (with music by Franz Liszt) headlines the evening, performed to live piano accompaniment by Pablo Lavandera. There will also be guitar and percussion accompaniment to an original piece featuring world music, choreographed and danced by Nicole Loizides, principal dancer with MOMIX. Guest artists DaVon Doane of the Dance Theatre of Harlem and Christopher Keramidas also appear with Ohman’s troupe.

Circus Thrills
It’s time for some summer circus fun as we get ready to welcome the Cole Bros. Circus to Oceanside next week. Meanwhile as a warm-up of sorts, performers with the National Circus Project visit Long Island Children’s Museum with some of their best acts. Get up an up-close introduction to how circus folk do what they do. The talented performers will introduce visitors to the art of balancing, juggling, clowning, plate spinning, and much more. Watch them live on stage and then join in and learn the tricks of the trade.

Sounds of the Season

Cambiata Duo
Relax in the glorious setting of Old Westbury Gardens listening to some stirring sounds, as part of the Gardens’ West Porch Beech Tree Concert Series. This weekend’s concert, held under the shade of the 150 year-old beech tree near Westbury House’s West Porch, features the Cambiata Flute & Cello Duo of flutist Pamela Sklar and cellist Suzanne Mueller, with special guest, guitarist Mark McCarron, The program includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Barbara Bach Sternberg, Roger Blanc, Egberto Gismonte, Laurel Zucker, and a sampling of jazz standards.
