L.B. Waterfront Warriors to hold 6th annual Holiday for Heroes Toy Drive

Posted

The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors will celebrate its 6th annual Holiday for Heroes Toy Drive next month when it welcomes service men, women and their family members visiting from Walter Reed Medical Center for a weekend of holiday fun.

The toy drive will take place at the Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy and take part in a tree-lighting ceremony, and will have opportunities to take photos with Santa and feast on delicious cookies and hot chocolate.

Kids will enjoy having their faces painted and design holiday greeting cards for recovering service members.  Gifts can be dropped off now through Dec. 7 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the PLLFD, at 102 Lido Blvd. in Point Lookout.

For anyone wishing to fulfill specific gifts requested by children living at Walter Reed, please contact Daria D’Andrea at (516) 426-3048 or email daria@optonline.net.

Daria is the group’s “wish list coordinator” and can help with donating a specific item that will be ordered and sent directly to a child at Water Reed in time for Christmas.

On Dec. 6, service members and their families will spend time in Manhattan, where they will visit the World Trade Center and have lunch at the FDNY’s Engine 54 Ladder 4, followed by a trip to Rockefeller Center for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular.  On Sunday, the families will attend the Toy Drive.
