Long Beach firefighters responded to a fire at a West Broadway apartment building on Sunday, which was quickly extinguished.

The incident occurred at 12:04 p.m. at 730 W. Broadway, a five-story apartment building.

According to the Fire Department’s Facebook page, smoke could be seen coming out of the top-floor apartment when first units arrived on the scene.

About 50 Long Beach firefighters responded to the building. The tenants of the apartment were inside at the time and called 911, and safely evacuated, said Long Beach Fire Chief Richard Corbett, who led the operation.

The fire started in a heating and air conditioning unit inside the apartment and was quickly contained. No injuries were reported.

Corbett said that there was no substantial damage.

“There was some charring, but nothing serious,” Corbett said.
