Long Beach Hotel officially opens its doors

New owner looking to make lodge a ‘staple’ in city

The Long Beach Hotel officially opened its doors last Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held by the Chamber of Commerce and attended by more than 200 people.

The former Jackson Hotel, at 405 E. Broadway, has undergone extensive renovations since new owner David Kadosh purchased it a year ago. The building, many residents and city officials said, had seen better days. Built in the late 1920s, it had been on the market for more than five years and had most recently been used by a yeshiva, but had been closed for months under the previous owners amid a number of lawsuits, liens against the property and Building Department and Health Department violations.

Jackie Salorio, the hotel’s sales and event manager, said that it had opened for business in May. “It’s under new ownership, and it is completely different and totally renovated,” she said. “The historical feel of the hotel remains intact — we wanted to keep the original structure and original layout.”

The Long Beach Hotel is the second hotel to operate in the city since the Allegria opened in 2009. Salorio said that 75 of the hotel’s 126 rooms have opened as the rest continue to undergo renovations, and are expected to be completed within a few months. Rooms range from $149 to $189, depending on the season, occupancy and demand, she added, and the hotel was fully booked last weekend.

Salorio described its new look as “surfer chic,” with neutral colors in its public spaces, beige and blue couches, and “lots of open spaces.”

“If you walk inside you won’t even recognize it — the rooms are very nice, very clean, no frills,” she said. “If we had to compare the rooms [to the Allegria] it’s more basic, and definitely a more affordable alternative. There’s something there for everybody, whether you’re coming from out of town and want to visit Long Beach or if you’re having a wedding or just want to hang out at the bar.”
