Long Beach police responded to a bizarre incident in the Canals last week, when a man behaving erratically barricaded himself inside a Forrester Street home and threatened to shoot anyone who tried to enter.

According to Lt. Mark Stark, a spokesman for the Long Beach Police Department, police received a call at 4 p.m. from what sounded like a female screaming, “I’m going to [expletive] kill you!”

The incident occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 63 Forrester St., a two-story, one-family home between East Pine and East State streets. LBPD officers arrived on the scene and observed a man screaming from the second floor, where he was throwing things out of a window, including plates, an air conditioner and a even bottle filled with urine, Stark said.

“Officers asked [the homeowner] what was going on, and heard a guy yelling,” Stark said. “He was saying, ‘I’m going to shoot you guys if you come in.’”

Eventually, a total of 30 Long Beach and Nassau County police officers — including a Nassau County SWAT team and emergency service units, as well as Long Beach firefighters — arrived on the scene.

Stark said police officers recognized the man as Roberto Rodriguez, a Long Beach native in his early 50s who had recently moved into the home and rented a room upstairs. It was unclear how long, and under what circumstances, Rodriguez had been staying at the home.

However, Stark said police were “familiar with his past criminal record,” adding that Rodriguez had been involved in a similar incident several years ago when he also barricaded himself inside a home in East Atlantic Beach.

“He had an incident similar to this in the past, and at that time he did have a weapon,” Stark said. “We didn’t know if [Rodriguez] had a gun; he was delusional, at best. He was in the room by himself but screamed that he had a little old man in there with him and a female who was turning white and pale. He kept yelling, ‘She’s dying and she’s turning pale,’ and, ‘They’re trying to cut out my ribs.’”
