Purple Heart recipients to lead the way

The city is set to hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday to pay tribute to the veterans, as Purple Heart recipients wounded in action will lead this year’s march as the grand marshals.

The parade will begin at Ohio Avenue and West Beech Street at 10 a.m., and ends at the reviewing stand on Park Avenue in front of City Hall. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will join city, county and state officials in the procession.

A memorial service at the VFW Post 1384 at 675 W. Park Ave. will follow the parade to remember those who have died in the past year, said Commander Dan MacPhee. The post will also be holding a barbecue, and all residents are welcome.
