A Long Beach man, Diquan Booker, 26, shot a woman with a shotgun on Sunday night inside a house on William Street in North Merrick, according to Nassau County Police.

The shooting, which occurred at 9:10 p.m., followed an argument between Booker and the woman, also 26, police said. They did not release the woman’s name.

Police said Booker pointed a shotgun at the woman during the argument. She grabbed the shotgun’s barrel, and he discharged the weapon, shooting her in the hands, forehead and upper body, officials reported. An ambulance rushed the woman to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition on Monday morning.

Police arrested Booker at the William Street house. He was arraigned on Monday on charges of second-degree attempted murder and three counts of first-degree criminal contempt at Nassau County’s First District Court in Hempstead. Judge Tricia Ferrell set his bail at $7 million, cash or bond.

According to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, Booker is represented by the Legal Aid Society, which does not comment on cases.
