Mostly Cloudy Police arrest Shore Road burglary suspect
LBPD says man responsible for string of thefts in Mineola, Long Beach
A Bronx man who was already in custody for allegedly committing a string of burglaries in Mineola has now been charged in connection with a burglary at a Shore Road apartment building last month.
Long Beach police arrested Morris Santaniello, 60, of Belmont Avenue in the Bronx, and charged him with second-degree burglary on Wednesday for a break-in that occurred at 630 Shore Rd. on March 13.
Long Beach police had been searching for the suspect and had posted fliers in the lobbies of Shore Road high-rises that showed surveillance camera images of a man that police said was responsible for the apartment burglary.
According to police, LBPD Det. John Sharpe discovered video that showed the suspect unlawfully entering the building and inside at different times.
Detectives said that they had learned that Nassau County Police Department detectives were searching for the same man in connection with several burglaries that occurred in Mineola.
According to detectives, at approximately 6 p.m. on Jan. 8, Santaniello allegedly entered an apartment at 190 Mineola Ave. and removed an undisclosed amount of jewelry belonging to an 81-year-old woman.
On Feb. 19, at 11:15 a.m., Santaniello also allegedly entered an apartment at 4 Birchwood Court. According to police, after the 69-year-old year tenant there discovered him, Santaniello pushed past her after removing an undisclosed amount of jewelry. No injuries were reported. Police said Santaniello returned to the Birchwood Court apartments later that evening and entered two apartments and removed an undisclosed amount of jewelry from two residents, a 64-year-old female and a 58-year-old female.
On April 10, as part of a joint effort, Long Beach and Third Precinct detectives and New York State Parole officers located the suspect in Astoria, Queens. According to police, Long Beach detectives identified Santaniello, who was placed under arrest by Nassau County detectives. He was charged with four counts of second-degree burglary and held at the county jail.
