The alleged gunman in a New Year’s Day shooting that left two men injured turned himself in at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, a week after police issued a Crime Stoppers alert for his arrest.

Long Beach resident Bradley Dennis, 29, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned at Long Beach City Court on Tuesday.

Bradley is suspected of shooting two men in their 20s at close range with a semiautomatic handgun outside the Channel Park Homes on Jan. 1 at 3:39 a.m. Long Beach police responded to numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of 12 Sycamore Court, between National Boulevard and Center Street — a block from City Hall and Long Beach Police Department headquarters.

LBPD spokesman Lt. Eric Cregeen said that police officers who were first on the scene saw a vehicle leaving the area, headed south on National Boulevard. Police stopped it in front of Fire Department headquarters and found two men inside with gunshot wounds. One man had been shot at least times in the abdomen and chest area, and the other man was hit in the arm, according to police and firefighters.

Long Beach firefighters treated the victims en route to South Nassau Communities Hospital in two LBFD ambulances. One victim was treated and released; the other was stabilized at South Nassau after firefighters removed pressure from his collapsed lung. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

Police did not disclose the names of the victims, both Long Beach residents, though Cregeen said that Bradley, whose last known address was 550 National Blvd., knew the victims and had been in a “heated” argument with the men prior to the shooting.

“Apparently they did know one another and were from the same area of town,” Cregeen said. “They were arguing over property, but the events that led up to the argument are not unclear.”
