Swimmer rescued from Reynolds Channel

Nassau County police rescued a Hempstead man on Monday after he attempted to swim across Reynolds Channel.

According to police, the 33-year-old swimmer tried to cross the bay under the Long Beach Bridge at 11:45 a.m. when he became tired and began to struggle.

The Police Department’s Marine Bureau responded to the scene, and three officers aboard Marine 6 pulled the man from the water.

The victim was evaluated while he was being transported to a local hospital but refused further medical attention.
